Adventure activities
If you feel up to it, there are numerous adventure activities which you could partake in. We will happily arrange a booking for you. Most of these are not for the faint-hearted, although we have mentioned a few more relaxing ones.
L’Araignee, with this local association, using local professional instructors you can try the following activities:
Tree Top Climbing (High Ropes)
Traverse among the treetops on rope bridges, tarzan swings and zip slides up to 35 feet in the trees. You will be fitted with a climbing harness, given instruction and then trek from tree to tree high above the forest floor.
Canoeing
You have the option of a more gentle 5-7km paddle along the peaceful River Charente in a choice of two or three man canoes or one man kayaks, descend several exciting weirs and traveling along narrow overgrown jungle like backwaters or if you have previous experience canoeing down the River Gartempe with faster flows and white water.
Rock Climbing & Abseiling
Most rock climbing with L’araignee is undertaken at the picturesque Vallée des Eaux Claires, on limestone crags near Angouleme. There is also an opportunity to traverse Via Feretta style and abseil down. Alternatively there is an intersting bolted viaduct locally which can be used to practice your techniques.
Caving
The caves are limestone and pretty muddy, although our local caves are for beginners they are defiantly not for those that hate small spaces!
Nearby there is a local Equestrian Center where you can try your hand at:
Horse Riding and Pony Trekking
We visit the local equestrian centre. After tacking up and practising a few rounds in the outdoor arena you and your family will follow our local guide on horseback as you head out for a promenade through the countryside. The hack will take you through fields, woodland and rivers!
Horse and Cart
Up to five people can site back and enjoy a leisurely couple of hours on an old-fashioned horse drawn carriage ride through the beautiful Vienne countryside.
Tennis
The local tennis court is about 3km away. On site we have tennis rackets and balls that you can borrow
Cycling
The area is stunning we recommend that you borrow one of our bikes and helmets and follow our suggested cycle routes to get a real feel for the local countryside. We also have a number of children’s bikes and a child seat.
Hiking
We have a folder of suggested local walks for you to try with handy laminated maps to stop you from getting lost, although many of these walks take you past local bars so the recommended times may double!
