Things to do
We are situated in a beautiful part of France, enabling all ages to enjoy a fantastic holiday. Our local village- St Macoux is typically French, housing a small church and bar-tabac which is always a popular spot for locals. The River Charente skirts the village offering some ideal locations for fishing. The Leisure Lake at St Macoux is set in tranquil wooded surroundings, there is a water slide for children and reassuringly a full-time Life Guard, the cafe is open in the summer months offering excellent moules-frites. There are also free local tennis courts; why not borrow some rackets and enjoy a game!
 Our nearest town is Civray, approximately 9 kilometres away, with a picturesque square and Romanesque style church, there is a local market every Tuesday. The small museum houses a collection of prehistoric and Roman artefacts from the numerous archaeological sites in the area. There are also a number of supermarkets for your everyday shop. The slightly larger town of Ruffec is approximately 15 kilometres away. Ruffec has a larger selection of shops and restaurants and is well-worth a visit.
There are many superb restaurants in the local area offering a variety of local and foreign cuisine, we will happily arrange a reservation for you. During the summer season there are numerous village fetes- a real opportunity to mix with the locals and try home-made regional specialities such as ‘Mouclade charentaise’ mussels with white wine and creme fraiche.
